Łukasz Wątor
Software developer with over 13 years of experience. I work inside client teams and run projects from idea to launch.
My name is Łukasz Wątor. I have been programming professionally since 2013, and since 2021 I have run my own company under the ThorSoft brand.
I started at ABB Corporate Research Center, then automated system tests for Ericsson at Ericpol, and spent over four years building back ends for global financial and technology companies at EPAM Systems. Back then I wrote mostly Java, and C++ in some projects. I know both languages, but I specialise in TypeScript (React, Next.js, Node.js) and Python. Since 2020 I have worked in teams at the consultancy Merapar on projects for Sky, hayu (NBCUniversal), Wärtsilä, RTS and Bird Control Group.
Most often I build web applications in React and TypeScript and serverless backends on AWS. I join teams as a contractor, and I run smaller projects, such as company websites, on my own from idea to launch.
Machine learning started for me at university: my engineering thesis at AGH was about dynamic neural networks in modelling metallurgical processes. Today I combine it with everyday software work: a model only makes sense once its result reaches a working application.
I rely on automated tests, infrastructure as code and documented decisions. That keeps a project maintainable even when the team changes.
Experience and education
2023–2026
RTS (Keenfinity, formerly Bosch)
Intercom systems for broadcast and live production, including a protocol bridge for the NMOS standard. Web applications in React and TypeScript, a serverless backend on AWS, as well as Bluetooth LE prototypes and real-time software for audio over IP.
2022–2023
Wärtsilä
A serverless platform for managing edge devices and data collection units that replaced a legacy system: device provisioning and certificates in AWS IoT Core, remote jobs and a React console. The production version was ready in under 14 weeks.
2022
Sqippa
A short contribution to an IoT platform for building management: LoRaWAN sensors, near real-time data processing and alerts. The whole platform was built in 10 weeks.
since 2021
Own company
I run my business under the ThorSoft brand and issue VAT invoices.
2020–2023
hayu (NBCUniversal)
A serverless CMS for a streaming service that replaced a monolith: content curation, metadata enrichment (including Amazon Rekognition) and promotional workflows. Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, AppSync and a React console.
2020–2023
Sky
Several serverless projects on AWS for television and streaming: a platform that processes video analysis results, analysis of live sports broadcasts, the Sky Sports key match moments feature extended to Germany, IoT device management and tools for collecting voice recordings.
2020–2021
Bird Control Group
Cloud back end for a fleet of IoT devices (Cognito, AWS IoT Core, SAM, CloudFormation), a multi-account AWS environment and a data lake fed by AWS Glue jobs, with Power BI reports on devices in more than 70 countries.
since 2020
Merapar
Senior software engineer at the consultancy Merapar. Projects for the clients above and a series of internal workshops on AI and machine learning for engineering teams.
since 2018
Own machine learning projects
A neural network written from scratch and time-series forecasting (2018–2019), and since 2024 regular work on models: LSTM networks, transformers, reinforcement learning, similarity search and a language model built from the ground up. TensorFlow and PyTorch.
2015–2019
EPAM Systems
Back-end systems for global financial and technology companies (projects under NDA): a trading gateway between brokers, solutions for a wealth management division and a distributed ETL system with anomaly detection (Neo4j, Elasticsearch, HBase).
2014–2015
Ericpol (for Ericsson)
Automated system tests of VoIP telephony nodes (MTAS), including performance tests. Six months on site with the client in Sweden.
2013–2014
ABB Corporate Research Center
Modelling electric arcs in gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) with cellular automata: a simulation application and visualisation of the results. Research work on 3D scanning with a Kinect sensor.
2010–2016
Studies
BSc in Engineering in Applied Computer Science at AGH University of Krakow (2014, thesis on dynamic neural networks in modelling metallurgical processes) and MSc in Applied Computer Science at the Jagiellonian University (2016).
